Risk Management of Future Large-scale Electrification

Professor Mladen Kezunovic delivered an insightful lecture titled “Risk Management of Future Large-Scale Electrification” at SEERC 2025, highlighting how emerging risks—from environmental impacts to aging infrastructure and massive integration of inverter-based resources—can cascade across critical systems. He presented advanced AI- and ML-driven approaches for predicting and mitigating grid risks, illustrated through a State-of-Risk-Prediction use case for outage forecasting and risk-based control. The talk emphasized that ensuring future reliability and resilience will require not only technical innovation but also societal, regulatory, and legislative readiness for large-scale electrification.

Invited lecture at the University of Donja Gorica and NCC for HPC in Montenegro

In October 2024, Professor Mladen Kezunovic presented an invited talk on “Risk Management of Future Large-Scale Electrification” at the University of Donja Gorica, Montenegro. The talk explored the challenges of integrating large-scale electrification into modern power grids, focusing on strategies to mitigate risks and enhance reliability. By addressing the role of innovative technologies and robust planning, the presentation highlighted key approaches to building resilient and sustainable energy systems for the future.

Attendees gained insight into an essential case study on the State-of-Risk-Prediction for grid outages, shedding light on the shift toward a risk-informed control and protection paradigm. The discussion discussed on a holistic approach encompassing IT management, big data, interoperability, and high-performance computing, emphasizing the necessity of AI and HPC tools for advancing data analytics and AI-powered solutions in electrification.
